This week has been a very tough week for the almighty Predators, with two of hardest games in the league so far. On Tuesday 6th of April we played local rivals Bridgwater Sports Reserves at home and came out the better side with a 5-1 win. The fixture for 8th April was against unbeaten Bishops Lydeard away. We all knew this was going to be an extremely hard game. The game kicked off with a lot of enthusiasm in the team. We all were feeling a bit tired due to Tuesdays week game we had. We were playing well in all departments until Bishops Lydeard got in to their stride and started to show why they haven’t lost a game this year. Now with Bishops Lydeard playing well we were struggling to play the football we generally play. With skipper Gary Head missing it was all down to Shawn Pople who took the arm band in his absence, who wasn’t doing a bad job sweeping at the back. There was some wonderful defending From Shawn Pople, Kered Pople and the return of Nigel Cornell who were all clearing away some lovely balls being whipped in by Bishops Lydeard. After 28 minutes Bishops Lydeard opened up the scoring with a well worked goal, Lloyd Hackling came out and the ball got knocked around him and stood no chance of saving it. Now with the game in Bishops Lydeards favour our heads started to drop slowly. Now we were really on the back foot and were trying our very hardest to get back into the game. With 37 minutes in Bishops Lydeard scored another goal from a well taken corner. The goal was scored from Shawn Pople, an own goal. As the first half came to a close the score was 2-0 to Bishops Lydeard. As the second half was about to start the manager made a substitution, Michael Organ off for new comer and making his debut Olie Smith. As Olie entered the game you could tell it was making a difference. We were a completely different team from the first half. We were starting to show what we are made of and started to play the football the predator’s way. With 53 minutes gone Matthew Kinsey took a throwing and gave it to Kered Pople who came across quickly to receive the ball. As Kered had no options he dribbled the ball on a bit and there were a couple of shouts telling him to shoot, Kered took the shot on from about 35-40 yards on the right hand side of the pith, and completely leathered it, there was a lot of curl/swerve on it and it went over the keeper and hit the cross bar, it was a spectacular shot and a very good effort. With the game now in our favour we were really playing well, and in the 61st minute the kojack Justin Lewis scored a great header from a sensational ball from The cornet Nigel cornel and that made the score 2-1. Now we were looking good and Bishops Lydeard looked a bit disheartened, and we were really starting to take advantage of it. With 77 minutes gone a corner had emerged on the scene and Kered Pople, Shawn Pople and more went up for the corner. The corner got put out for a throwing. Olie Smith took it and he has got a big throw which got flicked on by Shawn Pople furthermore the flick on came to the chest of Justin Lewis who was having a brilliant game. As it hit Justin’s chest it came down to big lips Kered Pople who was just outside of the 6 yard box volleyed it in to the top left hand corner which was an absolute vital goal. The game was turning out to be a fantastic game of football. With 81 minutes gone we looked very strong and Matthew Washer almost won the game for us when he was running on with the ball and on his right foot smashed the ball and it almost went in as it had beat the keeper and beat the post. If it was on his left foot it would of been a definite goal. Near the end Bishops Lydeard had a couple of missed chances but the manager Wayne Trapnell must have been hitting a brick, as we almost chucked it away. Lloyd Hackling made some spectacular saves to keep us in it at the end and during the game. The game had finished at 2-2 which was a great result for us, I think the manager must have been relived that the final score was 2-2. This games man of the match was Shawn Pople.
