Going into this game against Bishops Lydeard and knowing they were champions was a major disappointment for our club. The only thing left for the day was for our captain to receive the runners up trophy as did the Lydeard captain receive the league trophy. After the trophy celebrations were over it was down to real business and focus on the game to beat Lydeard and stop there 100% record for the season. The game started quite slow and the ground was like playing on concrete. This made the passing of the ball difficult and also the ball had a deadly bounce, which was hard to control. Lydeard had the upper hand in the first 20 minutes of the game and caused a few problems down the wings. Our keeper Lloyd Hackling had to play out and we called on giant Chris Ford again to play in goal and he had to pull off some good saves to keep us in the game and the defence were on their toes clearing the ball in the air or along the ground. Lydeard earned themselves a few corners and were pilling the pressure on us and got a lucky goal when our keeper went to catch the ball, but let it slip through his hands and go into the back of the net. This was a very rare mistake from the reliable Chris Ford and put Lydeard 1-0 up. The scores stayed the same for the rest of the first half with neither side creating good chances and we had to make a couple of changes due to old legs and injury’s. The second half started with the manager changing the side around to put front man Adam Kinsey back up front in his usual position, he was playing left wing back. Straight away Adam made a big difference up front and caused all sorts of problems for the Lydeard defenders. Adam won the ball from deep inside his own half from a Lydeard player to go on a solo run and score from an awkward angle to level the scores 1-1, with 55 minutes gone. With both side trying to get the crucial goal the game was heating up and it came down to Adam again to find the back of the net on the 63 minute to put us 2-1 in front and put Lydeard’s 100% unbeaten league record at risk for this season. Lydeard were now on the back foot and we were piling the pressure on them, they needed a bit of luck to get back into the game and they managed to get the equalizer on the 70th minute through a rebound of our keeper and a Lydeard player picking up the loose ball to make it 2-2. The scores stayed the same for the rest of the game and was a fair result overall and the same score as the away encounter. The club congratulates Bishops Lydeard on winning the title and looks forward to playing them next year.
